Brave New World and other Literary Visions

The Future of Society
Brave New World and other Literary Visions

"The Time Machine", dealing with the future of society, was published by H. G. Wells in 1895. The list of later novels that shaped public perception of potential future developments includes "Brave New World" (1932) by Aldous Huxley, "Animal Farm" (1945) and "1984" (1949) by George Orwell as well as "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury (1952). These novels still have relevance today, as parallels with current political developments seem recognizable.
The talk will give an overview of dystopian Anglo-Saxon literature with readings of selected texts (in the original English version).
